Network and panel access
The hotspot, your company network, the name on the local network and setting the clock.
The device hotspot
The device runs its own WiFi network, secured with a password unique to that unit. The panel address is 10.10.10.1 and up to four devices can be connected at once. The hotspot always grants access to the panel — including when access from the company network is switched off.
The hotspot can be switched off once the device runs on a cable. The button on the device then becomes the only fallback, so do that only after confirming that network access works.
Access from the company network
DISABLED out of the box. A freshly mounted device does not expose its panel to the whole company before anybody has changed a password. You enable it deliberately, in settings, and it takes effect immediately — no restart.
Once enabled, the panel answers on the network over HTTPS ONLY. Visiting the http:// address ends in a redirect to the encrypted one, so a password never travels the network in the clear.
Cable and WiFi client
- Cable: address obtained automatically over DHCP. Enabled out of the box.
- WiFi client: the device can join an existing network. The panel lists the networks in range, so you do not have to type the name.
- When the network is unreachable, the device retries five times every 10 seconds, then every 5 minutes. The hotspot takes priority meanwhile and keeps working.
Name on the local network
The device announces itself as rcp- plus eight characters of its number, ending in .local, so you do not have to hunt for the address handed out by DHCP. The name is shown in the panel. Announcing can be switched off where network policy forbids it.
Transmit power
The range of the device network is adjustable in settings, from 2 to 14 dBm. A lower value helps where the hotspot should not be visible from the car park or the next unit. The change takes effect immediately, without a restart.
Clock
The device has its own backed-up clock, so time survives a power cut. With internet access it synchronises from a time server. Without internet you set it from the panel in one click, from your computer clock.
Internally everything is counted in universal time and the panel converts to the chosen zone — Europe/Warsaw out of the box. Daylight saving therefore takes care of itself and never shifts records that were already stored.
